We are proud to partner with Family Carers Ireland, the national charity dedicated to supporting family carers and young carers in Ireland. Through this partnership, we have pledged to raise €1 million and grow national awareness of the 500,000+ people caring for loved ones with additional needs in our communities all over Ireland.
Caring for a loved one can be rewarding, but it can also be difficult, frightening and isolating. It shouldn’t be.
Family Carers Ireland (FCI) wants carers to know they have the support they need to care safely, to make it less of a battle and to know they are not alone. They are the national charity supporting family carers and young carers across the country who care for loved ones such as children or adults with additional needs, physical or intellectual disabilities, frail older people, those with palliative care needs or those living with chronic illnesses, mental health challenges or addiction. Their mission is to highlight the contribution of family carers to Irish society and to improve the lives of family carers throughout the country.
Lidl are supporting FCI with this mission by helping to raise awareness of family carers and encourage those with caring responsibilities to self-identify as family carers and link in with FCI for support. Many family carers fail to identify as such and simply see themselves as a mum, dad, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, grandparent, etc. In order to seek out the supports and services that can make a real difference to their lives, they must first recognise themselves as family carers.
As a not-for-profit organisation, FCI supports family carers and young carers through the provision of free emergency care planning, counselling, specialised training and education programmes, wellbeing support, crisis management, emergency respite/respite provision, advocacy, peer support groups, information on rights and entitlements and many other worthwhile initiatives. Not only are we aiming to raise funds to help FCI, but we are also aiming to raise national awareness of family caring by encouraging all of our customers and colleagues to SEE CARERS. If you are not in a caring role, you could be tomorrow, and we want to ensure you know where to turn to for support and guidance.
